Biochemistry Laboratories
The C.S. Mott Engineering and Science Center, completed in 2004, houses state-of-the-art laboratories where students have the opportunity to delve deeper into chemistry and biochemistry through hands-on laboratory experiments and research projects. Currently, there are four laboratories: the Bell Laboratories I and II, an Environmental Organic Chemistry Laboratory and a Biophysical Chemistry Laboratory. Adjoining these laboratories are two rooms filled with research quality instrumentation, such as:
- Atomic Absorption Spectrometers (AAS)
- Ion-Exchange Chromatographs (IC)
- UV/Vis Spectrometers (UV/Vis)
- Infrared Spectrometers (FT-IR)
- Gas Chromatographs (GC)
- Mass Spectrometer (MS)
- Differential Scanning Calorimeters (DSC)
- High-Performance Liquid Chromatographs (HPLC)
- Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer (NMR)
- and many others...
Bell Laboratories I and IIThe Bell Laboratories I and II are designed for typical chemistry courses such as general chemistry, industrial organic chemistry and analytical chemistry. Here students learn chemical concepts through experiments. Students also learn the techniques required to undertake more advanced courses and an independent research project. |
